Trailer Tuesday: Dolittle, Charlie's Angels and Onward

A man without gravity can be seen on Netflix, the «Charlie’s Angels» trailer raises eyebrows and Robert Downey Jr. is supposed to save «Dolittle». Also, Pixar is back with «Onward» and «Jungle Cruise» is Disney's new theme park film adaptation with Dwayne Johnson.

Last week was almost too sunny to spend at home or in a dark cinema. Nevertheless, a few new trailers were released. If you missed them, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to Trailer Tuesday!

The Man Without Gravity

After the first few seconds of the trailer, I was only thinking: WTF. But after seeing the entire video, I now think this movie looks really interesting.

What’s the Italian Netflix movie about? What's the Italian Netflix film about? It's about an extraordinary baby who defies gravity, grows into a man in seclusion and then becomes an international celebrity. But the only thing the man without gravity longs for is a normal life.

Start date: 1 November 2019, Netflix

Charlie’s Angels

I can't help it – everything about this trailer makes me want to puke. To me, this trailer looks like an immature 15-year-old boy turned all his sexist ideas of strong female figures into a film. All the more surprising that the film was written by actress Elizabeth Banks. She also directed it herself.

Well, then, you tell me: is this what the modern, strong woman looks like? I’m especially interested in hearing women’s opinions.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 2 January 2020

Dolittle

What's Iron Man doing in «Dolittle»? No clue. He talks to animals. We've seen this before in 1998 with Eddie Murphy, but Dolittle's true origins go back much further in literary history: to 1920, when the English writer Hugh Lofting published a children's book titled «The Story of Doctor Dolittle».

Not much can be said about the trailer itself. But I think it's a good idea that the film plays in the same time as the book was set in. And Robert Downey Jr.? He'd be a great addition to any movie, even one called «Connect Four – the movie». In the case of Dolittle, he could be a much-needed addition – frankly, based on the trailer, it doesn’t look great.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 17 January 2020

Onward

Finally, something from Pixar again. «Onward» takes place in a magical fantasy world that's lost almost all its magic. Then two elf brothers, originally spoken by Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, find an ancient magic wand that brings back their father who disappeared years ago. Well, it kind of brings him back.

To be honest: If it says Pixar on it, I'm curious to know more. Even if «Onward» doesn't look like the next «Ratatouille» or «Wall-E» to me, I'll watch it anyway.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 6 March 2020

Jungle Cruise

Another movie based on a Disneyland attraction of the same name: Jungle Cruise. How an attraction is turned into a film like this one is a mystery to me. But it worked with Pirates of the Caribbean, so why not again?

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 24 July 2020

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
