    Economical Monster CPU

Basically, the Ryzen line makes everything from i7-6800K superfluous when it comes to productivity (rendering, gaming and streaming, VM's, multitasking ect). In gaming, the CPU is still between i5 and i7 at the moment with outliers up and down. However, the more important minimum FPS are more on the i7 level. Gaming is therefore extremely fluid.

Microsoft is currently working on a patch for the Win 10 scheduler, which should provide significantly more performance. It currently seems to treat SMT threads like real cores and does not distinguish between the L3 caches of the individual core complexes. Teething troubles.

In lower resolutions, the 1700 is on average about 13% behind a 7700k (even the 1200 - 6900k is "slower"). At the moment, few games still want very fast cores), but the CPU load is only about 50%(!) with the 7700k, for example, about 90%-100%. This means that those who play AAA titles in lower resolutions
and want to replace their next CPU in the next 2 years anyway, will probably do better with a 7700k. For all others, I would clearly advise the R7 1700 because of the higher future security.

Compared to the old FX' CPU, the CPU runs much cooler and is about twice(!) fast. After the disappointing FXs, AMD has really delivered here and you can look around at AMD again with a clear conscience.

Tip: If you want cheap R7 1800X/i7-6900K performance, buy an R7 1700 and invest 5min in overclocking. All Ryzen CPUs have a free multiplier.

    Pro

    • Unbeatable price/performance. At Brack 30.- cheaper (15.03.2017).
    • Unbeatable performance/watt
    • Freely overclockable
    • Good boxed cooler: massive, copper core, quiet, enough for overclocking. (Led lighting, if you like it)
    • Superb application performance
    • Very good gaming performance
    • Low power consumption/cooling
    • Much room for improvement
    • Runs without problems with Windows 7 (driver from mainboard manufacturer)
    • Corair DDR4-3200 v lpx runs flawlessly at 3200Mhz
    • Cheap and long-lasting platform and upgrade path

    Contra

    • New platform. Teething problems: Windows 10, mainboard bios still faulty (now ok!).
    • Like all other 8/16 cores, the R7s are still(!) beaten by high-clocked 4/8s in games.

    Best budget decision so far.

There are actually almost only positive things about this CPU.

    • 16 threads
    • Very good boxed cooler with RGB lighting

    Contra

It doesn't always have to be Intel

I can recommend this CPU to anyone who is looking for a future-proof solution.
I was able to overclock my CPU to 3.9 GHz at 1.38 V with the Asus Prime X370 Pro board.
With OC, I achieved 1707 Cinebench points in the Multi,
160 points in the Single-Core Benchmark, which is a real house number.
It is also very power-efficient and does not get hot at all.
