I am very satisfied with the purchase. The fact that there were delays in delivery is not unusual for a new product. If you really wanted it sooner, you paid more.
It is also generally known that a filter has to be placed on the front to make it completely splash-proof and dust-proof, and this is mentioned again in the instructions, so there is no question of "incorrect information". Any good filter will do the job. For me, the B+W C-Pol XS-Pro does the job.
About the workmanship: TOP! It feels as good as it looks. Both the zoom and focus rings are neither light nor heavy, just right for precise operation - it's really fun!
At f/4, the speed is quite adequate for a lens in this focal length range for practically all situations, and thanks to IS, relatively slow handheld shutter speeds (1/3 - 1/2 S) are possible. Sharpness is excellent all the way to the edges, as is contrast.
Distortion is logically present, but is within limits for a zoom lens in this range. Vignetting and CA are also present. And here we come to the only weak point so far: Canon itself has not yet delivered a correction profile that could be loaded into the camera. At least there is already one for Lightroom, but it would have been nice if Canon had included it with the release or made it available as an update.
However, this does not change the fact that Canon has released a TOP wide-angle zoom lens, as many have long wished for - in my opinion, they have more than achieved this goal, so I give it a full 5 points.

My best wide-angle zoom so far! Outstanding image quality, top processing, rather small and light. A great addition to my 24-70 f/2.8L II.
Unreservedly recommended.

Top quality as far as I can tell after 2 weeks. The cashback and the 3-year warranty extension (promo campaign in November/December 2014) also worked perfectly.
The resolution is much better than that of the previous (EF-S) lens, which I used in this area and could no longer use because of the switch to full-frame (EOS 6D).
