I have at home nen 6 year old Samsung TV, which has nen Internat connection, but the cast system of Samsung does not support. Since we do not have a TV connection in the guest room, I was looking for a solution that is cheaper than having the power company pull a line.
Google Chromecast connects to a free HDMI port on the TV and draws its power from a free USB port.
The set up was seh easy but required a goole app. The device is registered under my google ID, without registration it cannot be set up. Whether registration is really necessary is another matter; as it turned out later, google seems to record data here as well.
The setup process was quickly completed. Streaming youtube videos, zatto, tennistv, srf streaming all goes super easy and flawless. Despite the partly poor WiFi connection in the guest room, there have never been dropouts. Picture quality is hardly distinguishable from the classic TV connection. My "old" Samsung TV lives again!
A good device.
As annoying I find that the device can only be set up if you register (s) a google ID. I fnd for the use case of such a device, which should be operated "only" in their own WLAN, exaggerated.
After I have put the device into operation via my Android tablet and regisitiert under my google ID, I have set it up afterwards for my wife on her iphone. I had to enter my google ID there as well. A short time later I received an email from google about the status of "my new iphone". I don't think a device like this should care what devices I use, it should just do what I bought it for.

Solid device.
Works reliably and feels high-quality. Commissioning via smartphone worked without any problems.

Super part!
Starts in about 30 seconds and loads the applications relatively quickly. The setup is also very simple and quickly done. The range of functions is good, but it would be great if there were a customised browser (why not Chrome?) with which you can stream videos online.
Furthermore, I find it cumbersome that you can only connect the device with WiFi. Bluetooth or Wifi Direct would be great as an alternative, so you could use mobile internet. (For people like me who have a bad connection via wifi.) But for 60.- you really can't say anything!
