Buy (64 GB, memory very quickly full). combined with a 360 camera, you can make great videos on vacation or elsewhere and experience the whole thing again at home!

Had so far only with the Playstation VR collected my virtual reality experiences and was "then" of the fly screen effect by the low resolution rather annoyed and also had little fun with the part.

Now Oculus Go is here and
provides an amazingly great, completely cable and hardware-free VR experience. I won't go into the technical details here, you can read the very good report from the Digitec specialist. It should be said that the fly screen effect is still present, but hardly noticeable now. The device has a much higher resolution than the PS VR.

My most used apps and experiences at the moment:

    - Wander (Google Earth & Street View combined).
    - Star Drive VR coaster (procedurally generated roller coaster rides through space and across a sun).
    - Everything about Jurassic World
    - Netflix (you sit in a virtual cinema)
    - Henry (VR short film)

    Pro

    • Self-sufficient: no cables, no additional hardware needed
    • Good picture quality, therefore very immersive
    • Can be recorded with external data
    • Wide range of apps
    • Does not need a Facebook account for the store, etc. (because Oculus is actually owned by FB)
    • Perfect for viewing pictures and videos in combination with 360 degree camera
    • Integrated speakers surprisingly good
    • Sits very comfortably and pleasantly despite simple mounting mechanism with Velcro straps

    Contra

    • Short battery life (2 hours at maximum brightness and enabled WLAN)
    • Various apps still very prone to crashes and errors
    • No motion detection in the room possible (coming next year with the "Santa Cruz" version)
    • Quality of the apps varies from miserable to very high quality
    • FOV around 100 degrees, which still results in a bit of a "diving mask" effect

    Only for stereoscopic videos

VR is still in its infancy, which is noticeable in all the current glasses. The Oculus Go is a simple and inexpensive entry, but plays in the league of Google Daydream or Gear VR and is not comparable with Rift and Vive because the position in space is not detected. In other words, the Oculus Go is excellent for stereoscopic videos, as long as you don't move your head too much. But not for anything else.

As with all VR glasses, it's best to test...

    Pro

    • Good display and lenses
    • Amazingly good integrated headphones
    • Moderately comfortable to wear
    • H.264 videos up to 3840 x 1920 with 60Hz can be played back without any problems

    Contra

    • Limited choice of content
    • App installation takes a long time
    • No support for Google's VR180 format so far
    • Very high resolution videos are only partially playable or only playable with certain apps

Put it on and enjoy media as well as simple VR games with 3DoF. No positional tracking means this is "VR light", but lying on the couch watching movies in your own cinema is awesome!

The Oculus Go is a perfect media consumption device that allows occasional, simple VR games. The workmanship of the device is top notch, the lenses are of very high quality and allow for a very good image. Since the last update, chromatic aberration is no longer an issue.

Operating and setting up the Go is very easy, it took about 5 to 10 minutes for the first setup. Then it's a case of: switch on, get going!

Storage space is a little tight at 32 GB, but manageable. I have about 15 to 20 apps installed, and a few films. If I want to add something new, I have to delete it and reinstall/upload it. If you have more and larger films, it's better to go for the 64 GB version.

But if you have a NAS at home, you can also use PLEX to stream your films locally, and Neflix, Youtube and other channels are great and work well with the Go.

Important: the Go only offers 3DoF (Degrees of Freedom), both for the head and for the controller supplied. This means that only rotational movements of the head are registered, and no movement in space, i.e. no forward-backward/side-to-side/up-down. And the controller works like a laser pointer, so to speak, which is fixed in space.

If you are aware of the limitations of the Go and do not expect a full VR system like a Vive or a Rift for the PC, you will get a top device for media enjoyment and simple VR games.

    Buy it!
