    purchased this product

Unusable in everyday life without massive protective devices. It is more of a high-performance, filigree piece of jewellery.

Since all users have given similar reviews of the product, I would like to point out a previously omitted point from my own experience. The advantages are correct, I can only support the reviews of the other users.

    What
is a farce, however, is the display or the so-called Gorilla Glass, which also covers the back. There is therefore practically no friction on surfaces and even the slightest inclination makes the smartphone slide. This is what happened to me, it slipped off the bath towel in the gym and fell from a bench at a height of approx. 40 cm (bench) onto linoleum (i.e. not a hard floor). This was already enough for the whole smartphone to have a large crack in the display. It should be noted that I protected the display with a protective film. This was also criticised in the Stiftung Warentest test, but with over 100 falls on hard surfaces (the report can easily be found on google).

Samsung or Digitec refer to the glass breakage, which is not covered by the warranty. I cannot hide my suspicion that there is a certain intention behind the filigree construction. After all, the spare parts alone cost around CHF 200 - 300 (without installation). Making a glass shatterproof is no longer an issue. It gives the impression of an additional source of income.

Even if the mobile phone is super from a technical and optical point of view, it fails in everyday use. It is a commodity and not a porcelain vase. Everyone is well aware that it does not have to survive 100 falls to the floor as in the product test. The fact that, despite the protective film on the display, one careless second can have such consequences is likely to cause a few red faces for a device costing over CHF 800. Goodwill or standing behind one's own quality does not seem to exist at Samsung. Unless you want to display the phone in a glass case or protect it with a 2 cm thick silicone cover, I have to advise against it.

    Pro

I would buy the phone again, as the price/performance ratio is right for me.

I switched from the iPhone 7 to the Samsung Galaxy S8. I like the fact that I can use two applications on the screen at the same time. The iris scan is also reliable and unlocks the phone quickly. Since I also use the official Samsung case, the finger scan on the back is somewhat suboptimal. Unfortunately, you often have to press the Bixby button instead of the volume down button, which is a bit annoying when watching videos. In order to use Spotify via Android Auto, I have to restart the phone regularly, otherwise no connection to Spotify is established. This was never necessary with my iPhone before with Apple CarPlay.
With Samsung Mail (Exchange account and IMAP account), email messages are often marked as unread, even though the emails have already been read.

    Pro

    • Operate two applications simultaneously
    • Wireless Charging
    • Iris Scan
    • Picture quality
    • Price/ Performance

    Contra

    • Bixby button
    • Fingerprint on the back (when used with the official Samsung case)
    • Restart for the use of Android Auto
