Stability issues with a local NVR

I have no opinion about the TP-Link "cloud" product: after the initial setup I've connected the camera to a local NVR (ZoneMinder) as an RTSP source.

It works pretty well, I can't complain about the features or picture quality,
but the camera can lock up after a few days of RTSP streaming. It sends some corrupted frames and then becomes unresponsive to all protocols and its own app. The only way to revive it is to power-cycle, but because it's not a PoE device it's impossible to do this remotely without additional hardware.

PTZ via ONVIF doesn't work (at least with ZoneMinder), but rebooting does, so it's possible to periodically reboot the camera as a preventive measure, but I would never fully trust this setup.

The camera packs a lot of features for a very attractive price, but stability problems are a deal-breaker for a non-PoE device. Look elsewhere if you want to bring your own NVR.

    As a pet camera

I find it great for watching my dog when he is home alone. Since he gets confused and doesn't settle down when I move the camera or use the talk function, I can't say much about it, except that both seem to work well (at least he was very confused when I used it once).

    Pro

    • Large shooting angle
    • Good picture
    • Easy commissioning
