It was worth it! I would buy again in a heartbeat.

    Initial situation:
    - Until now I had been using a standard UPC Cablecom router with WLAN switched on. If it was set to 5 GHz, I only had good reception on one floor. After switching to 2.4 GHz, I had WLAN almost all over
the house, but only very poorly in the corners of the house, which is why I regularly switched off the WLAN on my mobile phone and surfed via 4G.

    Installation Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC-LR:
    - Unpacked and very pleasantly surprised that the PoE adapter was included in the package. The statement "Without power cable" really only refers to the cable from the power socket to the adapter ( [Roline Notebook power cable (1.80m, 3-pin type J, cloverleaf)](https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/roline-notebook-netzkabel-180m-3-pol-typ-j-kleeblatt-stromkabel-219256) ).
    - This makes wiring very convenient, of course, because the power can be fed in somewhere on the screcke between the switch and the AccessPoint.
    - Unfortunately, the software cannot be installed everywhere. There are various discussions about this on the Internet. (Main reasons: Incompatibility with Java / Local port 8080 is already bound). Simplest solution: Try it on another computer.
As soon as the software is installed, the access point can be configured very comfortably and intuitively.

Change through purchase of Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC-LR:
    - I now have great reception throughout the house. This is in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands and even with the new, faster 802.11ac standard. Guests can connect to a separate network in which no access to local computers (192.168.0.0/16) is possible.

    Remarks:
    - Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to test how several APs work together. I have deliberately chosen only one AP for the time being in order to test how the coverage behaves with it. Since I am already very satisfied, I will leave it at one.

    Pro

    • Reach
    • PoE (with included PoE adapter)
    • Super easy to manage and yet also powerful in its possibilities
    • 2.4 and 5 GHz in combined mode
    • Guest WLAN
    • 802.11ac

    Contra

    • UniFi controller software cannot be installed everywhere
    • Changes to the network (e.g.: reboot router) cause longer outages for WLAN clients than on the cable

Digitec / Galaxus and their *** Schuko plug

For some time now, Digitec / Galaxus has been delivering almost every second appliance with a Schuko plug - the part that looks like a pig's nose. If you are lucky, the "packaging clerk" remembers to include a fixed adapter. But the colleagues often seem to be elsewhere with their thoughts.

According to Swiss law, this is strictly speaking illegal. Devices sold in Switzerland must be supplied with a plug that complies with the SEV 1011 standard. Fixed adapters are accepted by the "ESTI", but are not welcome.

Galaxus seems to ignore this information and as a customer you can either contact Galaxus after ordering so that they can supply you with the *** fixed adapter, or you can go to the next shop and buy one. As a private person this may be OK, but when a business customer calls and says "I can't plug in the * part", then the joy and professionalism is somewhat dulled.

The main thing is that you can select climate compensation at checkout, so that Galaxus / Digitec can then deliver a second package with the adapter - for the sake of the environment and customer friendliness.

Even if the competition makes you shake your head and smile with a ridiculous jacket on Swiss television, at least this one is free of the "Schuko gate" and the end customer is happy!

    Pro

    • Makes an ideal doorstop without type 13 (o.Ae.) plug

    Would buy again

I have been using the device since mid-December 2016. Setting it up is a little more complicated than usual. Normally via entering an IP address in the browser. Here, however, via a tool that can be downloaded from Ubiquiti. Java must be installed on the PC for the tool to work. Then the setup is done with the tool. Tip: consider beforehand on which PC the tool is installed, then always make the settings there.

Setting up the software is not for beginners. With a little basic knowledge (SSID, WPA, etc.) it works. With the standard basic settings, it didn't work right away for me because my laptop doesn't support WPA2. Performance is really very good, comparable with Netgear R7000. Stable and once set up no crashes etc. I would buy again.

One star deduction for software operation, could be easier.

    Pro

    • Reach
    • Setting options for software
    • Power over Ethernet PoE is interesting
    • PoE injector included - tell Digitec to include the German adapter for CH.

    Contra

    • Software not for absolute beginners
