The Battle of Stalingrad can be considered one of the most important battles of the Second World War. It began in September 1942, when the city was reached by Paul's Sixth Army, and ended at the end of February 1943 with the defeat of the German troops who, surrounded by Russian troops and weakened by the terrible Russian winter, surrendered to Marshal Zhukov, the commander of the Soviet troops in the sector. Particularly notable were the clashes around the two large factories, including the well-known tractor factory, where fierce hand-to-hand fighting took place.
