In 2022, the standard of what constitutes a "good printer" should rightfully be different from a printer from the 1990s - 30 years ago. In some areas, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9000-series feels modern and up to date. Especially in the areas of design, user interface, and a surprisingly connected ecosystem (related to HP's InstantInk subscription service).
However, I am very disappointed in the main function of actual printing. I have attached some examples from a document I printed just a few days ago. Note that the printer has been calibrated, has been used very lightly since it was purchased, and the paper used is 80gsm inkjet printing paper of good quality.
The text is simply soft or jagged - even by the standards of inkjets - not compared to lasers. You can see it obviously with the naked eye, and there is also obvious banding in pictures. Again, these are not unusable - but in 2022, after decades of printer technology, HP should do much better. The text from my Canon Pixma inkjet from 2010 (12 years old), is sharper than this at the same product price segment.
