Canon EOS R5 C with active cooling

The C in the name stands for Cinema and thus for Canon's line of professional camcorders. The EOS R5 C looks more like a camera, but the target group are videographers.

The R5 C can also take pictures, because it is largely based on the Canon EOS R5. It has the same sensor, which offers 45 megapixel resolution. The continuous shooting speed is 20 photos per second with an electronic shutter, just like on the R5.

For video, 8K with 12 bit RAW and 4K downsampled from 8K is possible. Same as the R5. You can see the most important difference in the camera right away: The housing is larger and is actively cooled. This allows for longer recording times in the highest quality settings. Canon gives the following values in the data sheet:

• Cinema RAW Light LT: 8192×4320 1070 Mbps: 63 minutes.
• Cinema RAW Light ST: 8192×4320: 1650 Mbps: 41 minutes
• Cinema RAW Light HQ: 5952×3140: 1770 Mbps: 38 minutes
• XF-AVC / MXF: 4096×2160: 410 Mbps: 156 minutes
• MP4 (HEVC): 4096×2160: 225 Mbps: 285 minutes
• MP4 (H.264): 4096×2160: 150 Mbps: 428 minutes

The camera has a port for timecode synchronization. Like the R3, the R5 C has an accessory shoe to which XLR microphones can be connected via adapter. The shoe can supply power to accessories. For example, the DM-E1D digital microphone.

All lenses with RF bayonet fit on the R5 C, and all lenses with EF bayonet via adapter.

The camera is expected to be available from March 22. The manufacturer's recommended retail price is 4999 Swiss francs or euros for Germany and Austria.
