Nikon Nikkor Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR

From a purely photographic point of view, there is nothing to criticise about the lens, considering the really fair price. But the 180-600 has several practical disadvantages. There is no quiver for the lens on the market (it fits in the Lowepro 13x32 with a stranglehold, but that is only a makeshift). It is all the more incomprehensible that Nikon does not provide a proper packaging to protect the lens when it is not in use. The stated weight of just under 2 kg is a good 2.3 kg in practice. To state the weight without the cap, tripod mount and lens hood is nonsense. And so the 180-800 is only 0.5 kg less than the faster 800mm (for which Nikon includes a practical case). However, the 800m also costs a lot more. Because of its comparatively high weight, I prefer the somewhat faster and considerably lighter and smaller 100-400.

Haven't had it long ;-)
The use at a football match was successful. With 1:6.3..1:8 at 1/1000s it worked well. When it got dark and with field lighting I had to shoot with 1/500, 1:6.3 and 40'000 ISO, which was not optimal but the results were usable.
I can recommend the lens for sports photography during the day(!) and outdoors(!).

I wait until the price is stable , then I buy the lens, I haven’t even received it and I notice it’s gone down by 5%!.. that’s 93 chf difference.. it’s so annoying.. I am almost thinking of sending it back which costs 7 chf and just buying it again.. it’s really frustrating as the price reduction seems to tie in with a purchase.. I am really fed up by this!

I'm really pleased 🙂

The NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR is an absolute price/performance hit for amateur photographers.
Anyone who does not want to pay CHF 5,000 or more for a fixed lens and also wants to be quite flexible is well served with this new Z lens.
The good results even in "poor" lighting conditions are astonishing. This is certainly also due to the Z cameras, which have a larger mount diameter than the F mounts.
For me, the large focal length took some getting used to at first, as finding animal subjects (e.g. nervous tits) requires some practice.
