Question about Corsair St100

Can this thing do anything more than just light up and hold the headset/headphones? The description promises "powerful stereo sound or 7.1 surround sound". But that depends on the headphones themselves... so is this thing really just there to light up and hold the headphones? xD

It has 2x 3.1 USB ports and a 3.5mm port for the headphones. At this connection you can set whether it should play stereo or surround sound (7.1 surround sound depends on the headset, so it doesn't work with stereo headsets). However, I bought a headphone amplifier and connected the headset to it.
