Do I understand correctly that the maximum magnification of 1:2 is only achieved at 18mm, i.e. when the lens is moved to within 5mm of the object to be photographed? Yes, if you really want to do macros, you should buy a macro lens. A soup zoom like this is only suitable to a limited extent.
