I own an MSI GS65 Stealth Thin 8RF. With the HP G2 120W, everything seems to work except charging the notebook via Thunderbolt (2 displays, USB, audio are recognised, I have not yet tested network cables and other peripherals on the Thunderbolt/USB-C).

Now the question, does everything work with the 230W version as well? Can I also supply my notebook with power via Thunderbolt? If the combination cable is needed, can I install it in such a way that I can plug it into my notebook (Thunderbolt is not next to the power connection, so there is also the question of the plug type and the voltage and power)?

Accepted Answer

The combo cable only works with HP's Zbooks. The power connector is magnetically attached to the Thunderbolt connector. The Zbooks obtain the required power via the power connector. Thinderbold provides a maximum of about 65W of power.
