The book contains a best-of collection of the songs, texts, and sketches that Vera Hemm wrote every year from 1980 to 2011 for the IFT on March 8th: contemporary and biting parodies of well-known pop lyrics and classic poems, passionate appeals for women's rights, and pointedly rhymed statements on the concerns and demands of the socially disadvantaged. Many of the contentious issues are still alarmingly relevant, ranging from abortion to the Bundeswehr to fixed-term contracts. What has changed are the so-called conditions: the demographic and political circumstances, the general mood, the actors involved, and not least the language - generic masculine, political correctness, and LGBTQIA+ serve as keywords. Therefore, the texts are editorially accompanied, placed in a temporal context, and explained where necessary. In this way, all readers can enjoy Vera Hemm's works without reservation: young and old, historically or otherwise interested, politically engaged or (not yet) so.
