Just had a quick look at the new model, normal 1.5L bottles fit. However, not many.

On my older model, no, they just don't fit.
You can see from the pictures that these are 0.33dl beer bottles, and they are great for cans and beer.

On top you could put 1.5L bottles lying down, but I never tested it, it's more for poker nights with beer or in the office for guests.
