Area of application;Emergency ladder systems are structural systems over which people capable of self-rescue can rescue themselves or people can be rescued in the event of danger.The following applies irrespective of the height of the ladder:The responsible fire protection authority must be involved in the planning of emergency ladder systems, in particular of access guardrails;Proof of the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil must be checked and approved for each construction project by a responsible expert for stability.At unsecured exit points, railings must be fitted on both sides of the ladder or led into the exit level;The gap at the exit must not be greater than 75 mm;At possible fall heights of 1 m or more, holding devices are required at entry, exit and bridging steps.For lateral bridging, the ladder sections must be higher: Distance from entry level to first rung 100 - 400 mm; top rung flush with entry level;The gap dimensions between the fixed ladder system and the guardrail must not exceed 120 mm;Release mechanism emergency exit ladder via foot control lever or safety barrier;A vertically movable ladder section is only permitted on the lowest ladder segment. This extendable ladder section must lower automatically before being stepped on. When lowered, the rungs of the extended ladder section and the lowest ladder segment must be at the same height;Access landings must cover the entire access opening (e.g. window width) as access points on emergency ladder systems;Vertical ladders must be fitted with a safety barrier. The vertical overlap of successive ladder sections must be at least 1,680 mm;Access openings within balconies and access openings in balcony enclosures must be secured against persons falling. The technical design must ensure that the function is permanently guaranteed;The emergency ladder should terminate on load-bearing surfaces intended for escape routes and secured, leading out of the danger areas
