In 1964, a specially designed, attractively styled coupe for young drivers was presented to the public at the World’s Fair in New York. This sporty and affordable Ford Mustang, the progenitor of the "Pony Cars," became available in April 1964, and within just six months, Ford sold an incredible 680,000 units. In 1965, a high-performance street version of the Mustang, the GT 350, built by Carroll Shelby, was introduced, featuring a 4.7-liter V8 engine. The car rental company Hertz ordered 1,000 units of the GT 350 H (H stands for Hertz) in black with gold stripes, allowing them to rent out "race cars" that quickly gained popularity among customers for their exceptional 306 horsepower.
