The side pocket (left in the picture) can be used as a shoe compartment, depending on the shoe size and model. There is also an outer pocket on the right-hand side, which can also be used to store shoes, but flat ones such as flip-flops. This compartment slightly reduces the size of the main inner compartment, depending on the volume of the contents.

It depends on where you're going and what you're taking with you. I have the 90 litre version and it fits 90 litres, winter stuff for a long weekend for sure. For the same price you can also order the 130L version, which is really huge.
