G-Shock

In the early 1980s, Kikuo Ibe was CASIO's leading watch designer. In 1981, he set up a project team of just three members to realise Ibe's vision of an indestructible watch. The long and difficult test phase took almost two years. But after continuously optimising the development of the case and various parts on over 200 prototypes, the first shock-resistant G-SHOCK was launched on the market in 1983. Revolutionary ideas such as a "hollow" case construction, simple time setting, all-round protection and padding of important parts were the cornerstones of the G-SHOCK Toughness and realised the shock-resistant construction that was to completely change conventional thinking about watches and is still the basis of every G-SHOCK today. Since the market launch of the first G-SHOCK in 1983, the watches have been continuously developed without losing their unique basic design. The CASIO damping system, which has been perfected over almost 35 years and to which the G-SHOCK brand owes its image as an almost indestructible watch, protects the movement inside.
