Johnnie Walker

After the death of his father in 1819, John Walker and his mother sold the family farm near Kilmarnock in Scotland to open a general store with the proceeds. Because John had not only a pronounced business sense but also a fine hand for whisky, he began to dazzle single malt whiskies which he added to his shop's assortment. After his death his son Alexander Walker took over the business as well as the task of whisky blending. In 1909 Johnnie Walker whiskies were named according to the colour of their labels. The famous Johnnie Walker Red Label and Johnnie Walker Black Label were born. Today Johnnie Walker is the world's largest and best-known brand of whiskies.
