Sony

Sony Corporation is headquartered in Tokyo and the third-largest Japanese electronics company after Hitachi and Panasonic. The core business of the company that was founded in 1946 is consumer electronics. Their product range includes TVs, hi-fi systems and components and video game consoles to name just a few. Sony also has a strong position in the camera and mobile telecommunications sector due to several successful product lines. The most famous product lines include the Walkman and PlayStation, which practically became synonyms for portable media players and consoles in daily language because of their immense popularity.

Since 1955, the company uses the brand name Sony for all its products. The name Sony is a combination of the Latin term sonus (sound) and the word sonnyboy (little boy) that was fashionable at the time. Sony was the first Japanese company to choose a name written in the Latin alphabet.
