Out of this world: making the iconic rocket ice lolly into a charm
by Stefanie Lechthaler
Fancy getting creative over the summer holidays? These craft kits are bound to keep boredom at bay.
This might seem obvious, but paper offers limitless possibilities when it comes to creating artworks. From long-lasting bouquets to meditative origami figures, these sets give you more than just a blank canvas. And if you manage to fold 1,000 cranes, Japanese legend has it that you’ll be granted a wish.
Are you after that perfect combination of creativity and relaxation this summer? A colouring book will be right up your street. All you have to do is pick a book, choose between felt-tip pens, coloured pencils or even watercolours, and decide on a colour palette. So chill.
With these craft kits, you can easily create something new out of objects you have lying around. Learn «Kintsugi», the Japanese art of repair, to give broken cups, plates or flower pots a second lease of life. Turn old wine bottles into stylish vases or drinking glasses, and easily create unique stationery out of waste paper.
You don’t have to book an overpriced pottery course in a swanky neighbourhood to find out if you like clay modelling. Instead, just start off with self-hardening clay.
If you’ve got the crafting bug and are looking for more inspiration, check out my archive. It’s a colourful selection of both straightforward and challenging projects you can copy.
Painting the walls just before handing over the flat? Making your own kimchi? Soldering a broken raclette oven? There's nothing you can't do yourself. Well, perhaps sometimes, but I'll definitely give it a try.
Practical solutions for everyday problems with technology, household hacks and much more.
Show allWhether you’re doing them alone, with kids or with friends, these craft sets are a meditative way to pass the time. Plus, they look beautiful.
Is burying your feet in the sand or surfing on turquoise waves off the agenda this year? Then grab this cockle shell craft kit, book a train to Ticino, sit yourself down by the Maggia river and decorate some lovely shells. Who knows? You might even manage to fish a few invasive quagga mussels out of the water and beautify them.
