Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day review: are premium daily lenses worth it?
I wore the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day instead of my usual monthly contact lenses for four weeks. The difference was noticeable. But was it enough to never go back?
I’ve been wearing contact lenses for over 20 years, usually opting for affordable monthly ones that run me about 10 euros per month. I’m quite happy with how they work, so for a long time, I saw no reason to change. That said, I’m not immune to the typical struggles faced by contact lens wearers. When I spend a lot of time working on the computer, my eyes tend to get dry towards the evening. And on stressful days, my vision goes slightly blurry after ten to 12 hours of wearing my lenses.
That’s why I was curious to try the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day lenses I received for testing. It was a great opportunity to find out if a premium product would make a meaningful difference in my daily life compared to the usual no-name lenses I use. After four weeks of testing, I can confirm there is indeed a difference. But does it justify the relatively high monthly price of 71 francs or 60 euros?
Trying the lenses
While they were still in the packaging, I noticed the lenses are slightly tinted. This makes them easier to see and take out of their packaging, though you don’t notice the bluish-green tint while wearing them. I’ll explain what that’s all about further down.
Putting the lenses in is easy. They hold their shape better than some cheaper models, which can fold or tear quickly when handled. The Oasys Max feel more premium, though also thicker. That felt strange during the first couple of days, especially right after putting them in. But the lenses are comfortable, and I got used to the sensation quickly.
They’re also easy to grip for removal, and they haven’t torn on me once. That may not sound like much, but it’s actually a significant advantage when you wear contacts every day.
The test of time
I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, and my eyes tend to get tired towards the evening when I’m wearing my usual monthly lenses. With the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day, this is noticeably less of an issue. Even after wearing them for eight to ten hours, my eyes aren’t dry and my vision isn’t blurry. The lenses sit comfortably in my eye; they don’t press down or annoy me in any way, and I don’t need any eye drops.
Then there’s the convenience you get with any daily lenses: wear, take out, trash – done. No cleaning, no storage, no maintenance products. It’s nice. But I’m aware it’s a bit of luxury that, to be honest, isn’t really necessary, especially since it creates extra waste.
OptiBlue Light Filter
Let's talk about the lenses’ blue-green tint. The manufacturer advertises its OptiBlue Light Filter as offering long-lasting comfort. Designed to reduce the amount of blue-violet light that reaches the eyes, it’s supposed to reduce eye strain. I can’t verify this in any representative way, but it could explain why my eyes feel less tired. Of course, it could also simply be down to my subjective perception.

If I hadn’t known about the filter before testing the lenses, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it. But what I will say is that throughout this test, my eyes felt a bit more relaxed than they do on many days with my usual monthly lenses.
In a nutshell
Comfortable daily lenses
The Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day lenses have really impressed me with everyday use. They’re comfortable, durable, easy to handle and more pleasant than my usual monthly lenses – especially when spending a lot of time at the computer. I do, however, see them as more of a luxury than my new go-to.
The reason for that is simple: the price. On top of that, daily lenses create more waste. But I do still recommend them for anyone who’s looking for maximum comfort and is willing to pay more for it.
Pro
- No cleaning or storage required
- Robust, don’t tear
- Keep their shape, easy to put in
- No dry eyes or blurry vision
- Comfortable to wear, even after eight to ten hours
Contra
- Create more waste than monthly lenses
- Filter’s effectiveness is hard to assess objectively in everyday use
- Significantly more expensive than monthly lenses
