Premium performance in a compact body

Equipped with the same autofocus system as the D5, the D500 also boasts comparable burst mode performance. It can be used in extreme outdoor conditions, and comes in a compact DX body.

It lets you achieve natural image quality, in all weathers, whatever the pattern and lighting. What's more, the DX sensor's approximately 1.5x crop factor creates a telephoto effect when shooting with an FX lens. This is particularly interesting for wildlife and sports photography, as you can immerse yourself in the subject without having to carry heavy equipment. Noise is dramatically reduced and even cropped images captured at high sensitivities retain optimum quality.

But that's not all: with the new buffer memory, you can take up to 200 RAW images in a single burst shot at up to 10fps. The 3.2-inch tilting and swivelling touchscreen is ideal for overhead and close-up shots. What's more, the D500 is equipped with the new SnapBridge technology: you can share photos automatically via a Bluetooth connection between the camera and, for example, your smartphone or tablet. The D500 has no built-in flash.

Highlights

  • 20.9Mpx DX-format sensor (comparable with APS-C)
  • New Expeed 5 image processor
  • Nikon D5 autofocus system with 153 points, including 99 cross-type sensors
  • Burst mode with up to 10fps
  • Tilting LCD monitor with touch function
  • 4K video function with up to 30i/s
  • ISO 100 51,200 [up to 51-640,000 possible]
  • Dual slots for XQD/SD cards

Photographers

Left: Rainer Eder with D500 and 16-80mm / Right: David Carlier with D500.

Rainer Eders doesn't just make his mark with spectacular climbing shots. Living in Switzerland for more than 20 years, the Austrian has photographed everything remotely related to extreme sports. Thanks to countless projects with basejumpers, speedflyers or kayakers, and photo assignments for trendy outdoor brands, Rainer Eder knows exactly how important a good camera is: "very fast, ultranet, with features similar to those of the Nikon D5 and yet so light and handy, what more could you want as a photographer? The results of our shoot in the Swiss mountains speak for themselves."

If you were to ask David Carlier where he lives, he would certainly answer "in nature". His photos are very expressive. His photo projects take him to the four corners of the world, where he again and again manages to prove his eye for aesthetics. The combination of different photographic techniques gives his photos a unique character. Like during this photo shoot, where David Carlier, for example, used several flashes with the D500 to get some exceptional shots.

Over the past few years, Christoph Frutiger has managed to make an internationally renowned name for himself as a freelance cameraman. He has already been able to show off his skills on several foreign productions, as well as on numerous action shoots in the Swiss Alps. During the action shoot with the Nikon D500, he gives us an exclusive insight into what goes on behind the scenes. Christoph Frutiger shows us that he is as much a master of cinematography as he is of organisation: breathtaking action scenes, perfectly staged, great cinema - all shot with the Nikon D500.
