Now available from us: 360-degree camera drone "A1" from Antigravity
The manufacturer praises its camera drone as the ideal device for beginners who want to create spectacular 360-degree aerial shots without any experience in drone control.
In the summer, the launch of the new 360-degree drone from Antigravity caused a sensation. The flying video camera with the catchy name «A1» is now available. It comes in three sets, which differ in terms of the scope of delivery.
The standard bundle comes with everything you need to fly. This includes the drone including battery (flight time up to 24 minutes), the FPV goggles, the flight controller and four replacement propellers.
The Explorer bundle comes with three batteries for the drone instead of one and a total of eight replacement propellers. With the Infinity bundle, you get three batteries with a higher capacity (aircraft up to 39 minutes) and eight propellers as well as a charger.
My colleague Samuel has tried out the «A1». You can read his test report here:
Flying 360-degree camera
Antigravity is a brand of Insta360, one of the most important manufacturers of 360-degree cameras for end customers. However, the cameras have not yet been able to fly.
The most important special feature of the «A1» is its all-round camera with 8K resolution. Two ultra-wide-angle lenses are attached to the top and bottom of the drone, each of which produces 180-degree images. The two perspectives are combined on the software side to create a borderless 360-degree video.
The body of the drone is excluded. This means that you can freely select the desired section and work with changes in perspective in post-production. In contrast to normal camera drones, it doesn't matter in which direction the drone flies because it records everything around it.
Head tracking and controller control
Antigravity has also taken this into account when controlling the drone. Instead of using your smartphone or a special remote control as usual, you use goggles. These are goggles that shield you from your surroundings and display the drone's live image instead. You can use your head movements to look around the 360-degree image.
You have a controller in your hand with which you control the flight parameters. There is no need to learn the controls using joysticks. The drone adapts its flight direction to the movements of your wrist. Because you don't necessarily look in the direction of flight when flying, the drone is equipped with sensors to prevent collisions.
On the software side, the antigravity drone is capable of a number of tricks that should enable spectacular shots. You can have the «A1» fly pre-programmed manoeuvres, such as circling around objects.
Important for hobby pilots: The «A1» weighs 249 grammes and you therefore do not need a certificate to fly it. However, you do need to register it as the drone is equipped with a camera. You can find more information for Switzerland here and for Germany here
