Opportunity for development: Honor Magic VS

Honor is now also launching its Magic VS foldable smartphone in Europe. I opened it up at the Mobile World Congress.
The Magic VS from Honor is a smartphone that can be operated like a regular smartphone when closed. If you open it like a book, you have twice the display area. It's not the first of its kind, but it looks promising.
There are hardly any smartphone manufacturers left without foldables. Their technology has steadily improved in recent years. In China, for example, the Oppo Find N2 is currently in vogue. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which our colleague Jan has already tested, is available from us.
I'm undecided, is it a useful trend or an unnecessary frippery? In any case, the Honor Magic VS is an exciting device. The fold is less noticeable than Samsung's Foldable, the hinge looks robust and the materials are classy.

When open, the display of the foldable is 7.9 inches. When closed, the 6.45-inch display fits in the hand like an average smartphone. However, it is chunkier and, at 267 grams, heavier than most smartphones. Honor has installed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and a 5000 mAh battery that can be charged with 66 watts.

The camera also looks promising: 54-megapixel main camera, 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with triple optical zoom. 4K and HDR10+ videos are possible.

It comes with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and Android 13, which Honor provides with its Magic OS user interface. Overall, the hardware is up to 2022 standards, which is also when it was launched in China. Personally, I would find a foldable that can be used as a notebook with a pen interesting.
The Honor Magic VS, in cyan and black, is now being launched worldwide and is not exactly cheap with a price starting at 1599 euros.
