Sure, the Arizona and Boston have long been Birkenstock icons – and if you’ve ventured a step or two further into the German heritage brand’s range, you might also be familiar with the Madrid or the Gizeh. But those styles barely scratch the surface. There’s a surprisingly versatile line-up waiting beyond the go-tos. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that the brand’s most stylish shoes are hiding among its underdogs.
Here are three unexpected styles that hold their own against their famous siblings.
1. Naples Wrapped
You love the comfort of the Boston but wish it had a slightly more elegant silhouette? The Naples Wrapped might be exactly what you’re looking for. It combines the relaxed mule character of the classic with the silhouette of a loafer and looks considerably more polished as a result.

2. Highwood Moc Lace Low
The Highwood Moc Lace Low shows a side of Birkenstock that most people probably haven’t considered, namely a lace-up shoe in the style of the Clarks Wallabee. With its moccasin-inspired design, it looks considerably smarter than you’d expect from a Birkenstock shoe.
