Xiaomi 12T Pro unveiled: 200 megapixels for better photos

The Xiaomi 12T Pro is one of the first smartphones with a 200-megapixel sensor. The 108 megapixels of the Xiaomi 12T seem like old hat in comparison.
Xiaomi has unveiled its 12T series. The Xiaomi 12T Pro, along with the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra one of the first smartphones to feature a 200-megapixel sensor in its main camera - though there's no collaboration with Leica on the T-series like there is on the S-series.
200 megapixels to 12.5 megapixels
Nearly a year after its unveiling, the Samsung Isocell HP1 is now coming to fruition. Xiaomi is installing the 1/1.22-inch sensor along with an f/1.69 aperture in the 12T Pro and hopes it will improve image quality. Pixel Binning" is activated by default. The software combines 16 pixels into one and delivers photos with 12.5 megapixels of resolution.
The high resolution allows Xiaomi to offer an in-sensor zoom. According to the manufacturer, this digital zoom should be as good as an optical zoom. Accordingly, the 12T Pro does not have a telephoto lens. The 8-megapixel wide-angle and 2-megapixel macro cameras seem like very weak sidekicks to the main camera.

The hardware is still complemented by Xiaomi with new functions in the software. These include Xiaomi Pro Cut. Here, the software suggests several image sections in different aspect ratios from a shot. With the film effects, you can now let time run backwards. Ultra Burst allows up to 30 photos per second and ProFocus, which continuously focuses moving subjects, also makes it from the 12 series to the 12T Pro.
.
The collaboration with Leica that started with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra suspends in the 12T series and is likely to make its presence felt again in the Xiaomi 13 series next year.
Top specs, but no Android 13 yet
With a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2712 × 1220 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 hertz, as well as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and eight gigabytes of RAM, the Xiaomi 12T Pro is currently very well equipped. The 5000 mAh battery is said to allow a screen time of 13.5 hours and to be fully charged in 19 minutes with 120 watts.

From the factory, Android 12 is installed with MIUI 13 as the user interface, and not yet Android 13.
Xiaomi 12T: 108 megapixels and a Mediatek processor
Main camera and processor are the two components where the Xiaomi 12T doesn't look as good as the 12T Pro on the spec sheet. The rest of the equipment including display and battery is identical. The main camera with a resolution of 108 megapixels has already been showing since the Xiaomi Mi 11 and Mi Note 10 that it can deliver good images. But you have to do without the in-sensor zoom here. The Dimensity 8100 Ultra is not Mediatek's top chipset, competing directly with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but as a mid-range processor it should have more than enough power for most purposes. The manufacturer has made a big leap with its chips in the last two years and caught up with the competition.

Price and availability
In Germany, Xiaomi will start selling the 12T and 12T Pro on 13 October. Recommended retail prices are 599.90 euros for the Xiaomi 12T with 8 and 128 gigabytes and 649.90 euros for the 8 and 256 gigabyte variant. The Xiaomi 12T Pro is only available with 8 and 256 gigabytes for 799.90 euros. I have not received any official data for Switzerland in advance, but experience has shown that the prices are similar to those in our neighbouring country.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
