Product details

Thermocouples are very sensitive and require a good amplifier with a cold compensation reference. The MAX31855K takes care of everything for you and can be easily connected to any microcontroller, even one without an analog input. This breakout board includes the chip itself, a 3.3V regulator with 10uF bypass capacitors, and a level-shifting circuit, all assembled and tested. It comes with a 2-pin terminal block (for connecting to the thermocouple) and a header pin (for plugging into any breadboard or perfboard).

Now using the MAX31855K instead of the MAX6675, it can measure a larger temperature range. Please note: The MAX31855 is not pin-compatible or drop-in code-compatible with the MAX6675. While we do have an Arduino library for both chips, you will need to adjust all existing MAX6675 designs for the new MAX31855. The MAX6675 has been discontinued by Maxim.

  • Works with any type K thermocouple
  • Does not work with other thermocouple types except type K
  • -200°C to +1350°C output in 0.25-degree increments - note that K thermocouples have an accuracy of about ±2°C to ±6°C
  • Internal temperature measurement
  • Power supply 3.3 to 5 V and logic level compliant
  • SPI data output requires any 3 digital I/O pins.
