It is said that love and responsibility make us "good" people. But what happens when these things are driven by fear? Does love and responsibility justify everything we do? Can we justify protecting someone from themselves and thereby preventing them from living a self-determined life? And what might happen when a person, who has survived extreme situations unlike my generation and has been shaped by events of war, is faced with the choice to either surrender or fight? This is the story of a family that survives a world war and is later destroyed by a mundane decision.
