Product details
In late summer 1795, the young general Napoleon meets the six years older widow Joséphine de Beauharnais. He falls passionately in love with the strong-willed and charming woman and makes her his wife a year later. Turbulent years follow, during which they become not only the most famous love couple but also the most powerful ruling couple in Europe. Although Napoleon ultimately forces a divorce in 1809 to remarry and beget the longed-for heir, the relationship between the two does not end. Until her death in 1814, Napoleon continues to write letters to Joséphine. This volume collects a total of 228 letters from Napoleon written between 1796 and 1813. These letters not only express his love and friendship for Joséphine but also provide the reader with a fascinating insight into the private nature and life of a woman.
