Product details

In 1995, Binjamin Wilkomirski's widely noted autobiography "Fragments" was published, which ostensibly presented the account of a child survivor of Auschwitz. However, his memories were later recognized as confabulation, leading to a media scandal. In her master's thesis, Verena Huth examines the feuilleton debate, explores theories related to the genre of "autobiography" and memory research, and ultimately turns to the literary reception of the "Wilkomirski case": the 2010 novel "The Canvas" by Benjamin Stein, which radically questions the concept of authentic memory. Verena Huth describes the presentation of the case in "The Canvas" and discusses the new perspectives that arise from it.
