Karate is a widely recognized term today. However, it is often associated with clichés rooted in ignorance and bias. This book is written for beginners interested in the history and teachings of Karate. It highlights some issues that may arise when examining the background of Karate. Using Japanese sources, it provides valuable information about two key figures in Karate history and the style they taught: Funakoshi Gichin (1868-1957) and Funakoshi Yoshitaka (1906-1945). The two Funakoshis established a school known as Karate-Dō Shōtōkan-Ryu. Shōtōkan-Ryu is one of the most widespread styles of Karate worldwide. The book includes a life description of the Funakoshis that has been directly translated from Japanese and extensively commented upon. This account was written during Funakoshi Gichin's lifetime and contains additional information.
