Late 1944: In Germany, a madman is in power. Especially in the big cities, people can no longer be sure they will see the next morning due to the constant bombings. Even those who find refuge in air raid shelters must fear being buried alive. A mother experiences such a bomb night with her two sons in the Ruhr area, while the father has been missing in Russia since 1942. When they leave the bunker in the morning, the entire street is nothing but flames, embers, and ashes. Only the occasional remnants of the house ruins stand like bare fingers pointing to the glowing sky above, as if to call out: "There - it was them up there!" But hope continues to live on...
