The Brothers Grimm referred to themselves as the linguists and folklorists Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) in their joint publications, such as their world-famous Children's and Household Tales. The brothers originally collected fairy tales from their circle of acquaintances and from literary works at the suggestion of the Romantics Clemens Brentano, Achim von Arnim, and Johann Friedrich Reichardt for their folk song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn starting in 1806.
