Product details
The advantages of passive Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables over fibre optic and RJ45 cables are becoming increasingly sought after in the networking industry. Our passive SFP+ 10G DAC Twinax cable is a cost-effective alternative to RJ45 and fibre optic cables, offering energy efficiency and low latency. It is an excellent choice for structured cabling over short distances between switches and routers on one end and servers and storage on the other, whether in Top of Rack (ToR), Adjacent Rack, 10G stacking switches, or similar applications. With no heat generation and suitable for extreme ambient temperatures, it is ideal for data centres. The SFP+ DAC consists of Twinaxial copper cable, terminated with SFP+ connectors at both ends, providing an electronic connection directly into the active components. Due to its thermal design, this passive cable consumes less than 0.15 W, reducing your power consumption and thus your costs. Since it produces no heat, it is significantly more versatile, even in extreme ambient temperatures up to 70 °C, making it particularly valuable for data centres. Cheaper and easier to deploy than fibre optics, DAC cabling has a comparatively simple internal structure with fewer components than fibre optic cables. This cable structure allows for a lower acquisition price and also saves you from having to purchase separate GBIC transceivers. This, in turn, simplifies deployment as you need to coordinate fewer components. When storing used cables, you need to pay less attention to testing and cleaning before reusing them compared to fibre optics. When upgrading your network or replacing individual parts, the hot-swapping capability of the cable ensures a seamless transition. Just note that passive DAC cables are not suitable for long-distance applications – their transmission range is limited to 7 m.
