The cable has one male and one female XLR metal plug with snap-in function and is used to transmit DMX signals. The plugs are equipped with kink protection and promise a long service life. DMX cables are used in lighting technology to exchange digital control data between transmitters (e.g. DMX controllers) and spotlights with a DMX interface. The 3-pole design is used in simple setups and provides the required signal transmission. Although ordinary XLR microphone cables look like DMX cables, they are only suitable for DMX control to a limited extent. The basic frequency of a DMX control signal is 125kHz, whereas the frequency of an XLR microphone is between 20Hz and 20kHz. Microphone cables do not have a fixed characteristic impedance, which means that signal transmission becomes more susceptible to interference as the length of the cable increases.
