The first generation of the Apple M1 SoC is impressive in many ways. However, the chip quickly reaches its limits when connecting additional monitors. The LMP USB-C Dual Adapter offers the solution. The LMP Dual Adapter can be used with any Mac generation that has a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port - whether Intel or M1, including M1 Pro and M1 Max. A maximum of 2 LMP Dual Adapters or 4 additional monitors (2 HDMI and 2 VGA) can be operated via USB-C or even USB-A ports. The LMP Dual Adapter can even be installed on the USB-C or USB-A outputs of a USB-C dock. This is made possible by the Silicon Motion video chipset and its drivers, as well as the fact that the video signal is transmitted via the USB protocol rather than the DP Altmode signal. Resolutions go up to 4K@30 Hz (HDMI) and Full HD (1920×1080@60 Hz) for the VGA output.

This means that the user can add no less than 4 additional monitors to the number that Apple specifies as the maximum number of external monitors. Thus, a first-generation M1 device can utilize one monitor via DP Altmode and an additional 4 by adding 2 LMP Dual Adapters, provided there are enough free USB-C or USB-A ports to connect the 2 LMP Dual Adapters. A whopping 8 external monitors can be used with the latest MacBook Pro M1 Max, with each displaying an independent image (Extended Mode). The same applies to any Mac with Intel processors and Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.
