A serious injury pulls the author out of combat duty in Monte Cassino. After his recovery, he is deployed in the defensive battle with a tank unit in the southeast of the Reich. The men fight their way through house-to-house combat and retreat movements from Austria to the American line, in order to escape certain death at the hands of the Soviets as soldiers of the Waffen-SS.
