Moments in Paradise: These are those seemingly innocent moments of happiness in childhood that we remember with a mix of nostalgia and fondness as adults. The new novel by Urs Faes is a book of memories. Through the eyes of a child, the boy Steff, it tells the story of the 1950s at the foot of the Swiss Jura, exploring a childhood and the lives of adults who are still burdened by the suspicions and fears of the past war. Initially, it is male figures, father figures, that shape the life of the child and the adolescent: the father, a taciturn man who, after losing his farm and taking a job in a confectionery factory, retreats into illness and a long dying process at a young age. Director Brockendorff is a confectionery manufacturer who moved from Swabia to Switzerland.
