Product details
With a passion for literature, Polish Jew Francoise Frenkel opened the first French bookstore in Berlin in 1921 after studying in Paris. In 1939, she fled from National Socialism, traveling through Paris and across France to the "free" south in Nice. When raids occurred here in 1942 as well, she found refuge with the couple Marius. Two unforgettable people in their steadfastness, with their help she successfully escaped to Switzerland in 1943. Now, this testimony, described as "written with the pace and intensity of a novel" (Le Monde), is being published in German for the first time, celebrated as a historical and literary find, with a foreword by Patrick Modiano.
