The Nux NBK-5 Masamune combines a booster and compressor in one compact effects pedal with selectable signal routing. The boost section has boost level, drive, and hi-cut controls. The compressor section comes with comp level, sustain, blend, and clip controls. The comp level control adjusts the output level for the compressor and optimally balances the input and output signals. The sustain control adjusts the compression ratio and allows for a longer and richer sustain. The blend control adjusts the compressor transparency from 50% to 100%, allowing the exact amount of compressed dry signal to be set. The clip toggle selects the overdrive range of the input signal. Toggle-up compresses the signal for a voluminous sound, while toggle-down frees up more space in the clipping range.

The effect pedal refines the dry signal and improves the sound before it is sent to a mixer or amplifier. The booster adds a soothing timbre to the signal. High frequencies of the input signal can be cut with the hi-cut toggle switch. The Nux Masamune has internal routing with three functions. Both effects can be selected in parallel. MUTEX can be switched on to activate only one effect at a time. It is also possible to select which effect should be first in the signal chain. The Masamune has an external footswitch input that can be used to connect a footswitch for expandable control. A guitar can be connected via the 6.35mm jack input, and the signal can be output to an amplifier or mixer via the 6.35mm jack output. Power is supplied via a 9V mains adapter (not included).
