... For 500 euros, the value of the 20-60 is very acceptable, but it is not a top lens, because at open aperture it shows clear to very clear contrast weaknesses at the edges of the shorter focal length. Since stopping down improves the quality significantly, it gets our recommendation.
Panasonic Lumix S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6
Leica L, full sizeProduct details
The Lumix S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 is a robust, lightweight standard zoom lens with a focal length of 20 mm ultra-wide angle to 60 mm for versatile use from dynamic landscape shots to portraits. The wide angle of view also makes it easy to take pictures indoors and the impressive close-up limit of 0.15 m (maximum magnification 0.43x) extends its use in product photography. The Lumix S Zoom also ensures high-quality video recording by minimising focus breathing. Thanks to its compact design and low weight of around 350 g, it is not at the expense of the photographer's mobility. It is characterised by a dust- and splash-resistant design and can be used in the most adverse conditions down to -10°C. In addition, a fluorine coating on the front element repels water and oil. The filter diameter is 67 mm and the lens has nine blades for a practically circular aperture.

With a balanced overall performance, the Panasonic Lumix S 3.5-5.6/20-60 mm gets an outright "very good".

- The lens pleases with compact dimensions, light weight, a fair price and adequate performance.
- The resolution results could be a little higher. AF performance is good, but does not break any records.
Panasonic succeeds with the S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 in a precision landing in the evaluation triangle of price, weight/size and optical performance. The small standard zoom with the somewhat unusual focal length range (20 to 60 millimetres instead of 24 to 70 millimetres) should not be missing in any S photo bag.
