The main difference between the new E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II and the old model is the improved autofocus and video performance. The new model offers better handling when shooting films, as the autofocus is also available while zooming. It also supports in-body breathing compensation to minimise panning movements when focusing, resulting in a more stable image.

My reasons were. I had to replace it because it is the smallest and lightest lens for my "small" Sony cameras (1 x 6300 3 x 6400 and 1 x FX30) motorised sliders and I also have a number of macro attachments for this lens. I therefore only use it for video recordings. I was very surprised that the new one is now made entirely of plastic. However, this certainly helps with the weight. Visually, according to test reports, it should be slightly superior to the old one. If you want to read a very good test report: https://www.digitec.ch/de... Conclusion: the lens is perfect for me and my requirements. However, I usually work with fast (f1.4) fixed focal lengths from Sigma and a f2.8 zoom from Tamron.

The main difference between the Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II and the previous model lies in the improved functions. The new model offers updated autofocus technology, improved optical elements and better image quality. It also supports breathing compensation and has an improved close focusing ability. These innovations explain the price difference between the two models. However, both lenses have the same focal length and aperture.
