When you have no choice
Either a new print head or a new printer. I took the risk of using a new print head, although this did not always work for others either. The additional manual cleaning of the old print head did not help. After a day's break, I had only successfully printed one page of A4 when the printer reported the print head had failed and refused to work. If that doesn't smack of obsolescence....

Unnecessary predetermined breaking point
HP clearly has a number of extremely environmentally damaging and consumer unfriendly software blockades in my OfficeJet Pro 8600e printer that are designed to prevent non-HP ink from being used and to ensure that too much ink is purchased.
The error that the print head is broken is obviously nonsense, but there is not much you can do about it.
HP is only after maximum profit with the ink printers, let's see how long until the error is displayed again.Pro

Attention during commissioning
ATTENTION!!!
Be sure to use the supplied ink cartridges for commissioning!!!!
These are setup cartridges which fill the new print head! (initial filling, print head cleaning and alignment)
These only work the first time you use the unused print head!!!
I wanted to "save" and keep the cartridges to use the ones from the old print head first. This works, but the cartridges are sucked almost empty the first time and the supplied cartridges no longer work after initial start-up, the printer then recognises them as setup cartridges and refuses to work as the print head has already been put into operation.Pro

Too expensive
I was advised not to replace the printer head myself. I chose this printer 6 years ago because it is sustainable and the printer head is semi-permanent/easily replaceable. I find the argument that a new printer would be cheaper simply perverse. The argument of a dying throwaway society.
