Perfect accessory for Lenovo touchscreen laptops

    Note:
    1. This version is for laptops only. model: GX81J19854 (or others with '81' after the first two letters)
    2. For tablets, you need ZG38C03372, ZG38C04471 (or others with '38' after the first two letters)

    This is an
excellent pen! I love writing with it! It's a definite upgrade from the integrated tiny stylus in my Thinkpad X1.
Ergonomically, it's a perfectly balanced pen: the writing experience is really enjoyable!
The only drawback is that the pen has to be charged to function. I wouldn't mind a "dumb" stylus with the same design. The charge lasts for months, so it's not a big inconvenience.

    Pro

    • pen tip has ideal amount of friction
    • hexagonal sides provide good grip
    • slightly heavy weight ideal for cursive writing and Arabic and East-Asian scripts
    • universal USB-C charging
    • charge lasts for months!
    • two customizable buttons
    • automatic pairing and seamless integration with Lenovo laptop

    Contra

    • no sleeves or magnetic attachment to laptop
    • smooth surface may reduce grip if hand is sweaty
    • only one extra pen tip
    • only one type of pen tip

    WARNING: Only works partially

The stylus has dropouts: Sometimes it simply stops working. It is no longer recognised by the touchscreen and pressing the buttons for 30 seconds, for example, doesn't work either. This is apparently a known problem. (a Google search for "lenovo precision pen 2 randomly stops working" results in discussions on Reddit and in the Lenovo forum. I have observed the problem with two different pens: I work with it without any problems and then after a while (maybe an hour) it just stops working. The next day it worked again once. However, the problem can be solved by inserting the pen for a few seconds. (The problem is not caused by a flat battery! The pen was freshly charged and it is enough to plug it in, you don't need to charge it). However, this fix is useless when travelling, e.g. on the train or at university/school, and also makes working tedious: you are constantly interrupted and have to dig out a USB-C cable.

This problem makes the pen almost unusable for me.
But if you're okay with plugging the pen in every few hours and you only need it at home/at the office anyway, it's a good pen:
It feels very high quality. However, I can't say anything about its longevity as I haven't used it for very long.
It feels very good in the hand. I find the metallic surface and the hexagonal design very pleasant.
The weight is also very pleasant, not too light, but not too heavy either.
The buttons are a bit small, i.e. they don't get in the way when typing, but I have a bit of trouble finding them. (But not really a problem, just a detail).
It's great that the pen has a rechargeable battery and can be charged with USB-C. (Other products need batteries and opening and closing them has led to damage for me with other models).
    The pen is very pretty.

What else needs to be mentioned: Lenovo seems to make a secret about which of their pens are compatible with which devices. I couldn't even find this information on the Lenovo website.
What I can say: the pen works fine with my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1 Gen 6 (apart from the problem mentioned above). No pairing, installing software etc. necessary. "Works" out of the box.

    Pro

    • Sits well in the hand
    • Battery operated
    • USB-C charging port
    • Pretty
    • "Works" out of the box

    Contra

    • Warning!!!! Stops working randomly
    • Problem is solved by plugging in briefly.
    • Buttons a little small
    • Lenovo does not know which devices are compatible

    Pen disconnects automatically

The pen disconnects from the laptop on average twice a week. It only works again after briefly plugging in a USB-C cable. Very annoying if you don't have a cable with you.

    Pro

    • Pleasant writing experience
    • Battery

    Contra

    • Loses contact
    • No pen tips to replace
