Isabelle Esling examines the French connections and influences on the work of Richard Wagner in her present study. Despite numerous difficulties, Wagner established significant contacts in France and ultimately found admirers of his compositions there. During his stays in France, he expressed his creativity in a unique way, despite his aversion to the lavish French works, and completed many of his pieces in France. In general, Richard Wagner's relationship with the neighboring country of France can be described as a mixture of love and hate. To better understand the man and artist Richard Wagner, it is essential to engage with and illuminate the French influences in Wagner's Parisian world at that time.
