Siddhartha is enlightened. After many hard years of searching, he has finally reached his goal. Now, he must share his insights with his fellow human beings. However, this proves to be more difficult than expected. Five ascetics, whom he meets before his enlightenment and with whom he practices strict asceticism for a time, become his first students and most loyal companions. He patiently teaches them the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. Yet, the path to enlightenment is hard and rocky, and his students display very human traits along the way. It’s no wonder that confusions and misunderstandings arise. This novel humorously narrates the life of Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Buddha and the founder of Buddhism. Nevertheless, the book also represents a serious engagement with Buddhist teachings, making it a valuable read.
